About Shane and Gillian
Shane and Gillian Filan you say? Yes, I did. Let me tell you a story, a love story, their love story.I'm gonna take you back to Sligo, a little town in the west of Ireland, when in about 1989, Shane and Gillian met at school, Summerhill College.
They were 10-11 at the time, both just normal students, only thing was, Shane could actually sing and played in quite a few musicals at school.
One day the both of them got parts in the school's version of 'Grease'. Shane played Danny, Gillian Frenchie.
They got together for a few months when they were 12, but decided to split after that.
They had on-off relationships a few times after that, but none of then did actually last.
Just before Shane got into a band, called IOU, Shane and Gillian got back together, that must have been 1997.
From that moment on it did last. But there was one problem. Gillian was still at college, studying, to get her Busniess Degree at Sligo University, when Shane got part of Westlife. The band, that used to be IOU changed line up and names and released their first single, Swear It Again, in 1999.
That became a huge hit and Shane was in the spotlight, which meant the girlfriends topic couldn't be avoided.
Until late 2001 he kept denying he was in a relationship, everyone believed him, until the media caught a 'mysterious lady' waiting for him, outside his hotel.
From that moment on the both of them knew there wouldn't be any use in trying to keep their relationship a secret.
So Shane chose the World Of Our Own albumlaunch, to admit he was in a relationship with Gillian.
They went public and were happy, eventhough loads of fans thought differently at that time. They did hold on though, eventhough there kept coming up stupid split rumours.
In December 2002, Shane proposed to Gillian, on a beach in Dubai. Everything went like clockwork from that moment on and they got married on the 28th December 2003, in Ballintubber Abbey, Sligo, Ireland.
And as usual when a couple gets married, the pregnancy rumours filled the papers. None of that was true, until December 2004, just after they moved into their newly build home in Sligo, when Gillian found out she was pregnant with their first child.
The little baby girl, called Nicole arrived on 23rd July 2005, two week early but that didn't care. For Shane, she made the fairytale complete, so far.
To be continued..
