By Elaine McGuinness
Father-of-two Shane Filan has advised Kian to enjoy his big day this week and all that marriage has to offer. Shane is expected to join band mates Nicky and Mark this week in a star-studded bash to witness fellow band mate Kian tie the knot with fiancée Jodi Albert. “He’s got a great girl in Jodi, and a fantastic relationship. They’ve been together a long time so it’s about time they got married!” Speaking to the Sligo Post last Friday Shane said that his life only started to mean something after he became a father. He and his wife Gillian had their second child late last year and the Westlife star told the Post how his life has changed since having children. “Having kids definitely puts life into perspective. In my opinion, I’ve only started living since I had kids. Hopefully, there’ll be many more.” Speaking about the latest arrival, Patrick, born last September, the pop star said he was glad to have had the opportunity to be at home. “It was wonderful to be there when Patrick was born, to be able to take the last nine months off and spend time at home. We’ve got six weeks left before we get straight back into work. I’m enjoying every minute of it.” The singer, who already has a four-year-old daughter, Nicole, continued to say that Westlife are heading to Nashville in June to start recording on their new album. “We got new people with fresh songs and fresh material. We feel the last year has had too many covers so we’re back to originals like our first album, with some great pop songs.” Source: Sligo Post Posted on 06 May 2009 by Laura

By Sharon Conway
WESTLIFE’S Shane Filan was one of hundreds of Sligo rugby fans who turned out for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Grand Slam trophy cup in Sligo. The crowd celebrated and reminisced over Ireland’s recent Grand Slam victory in Wales - as the O2’s Grand Slam Trophy tour visited Sligo’s O2 Store on O’Connell Street, on Friday. During the RBS 6 Nations championship O2 gave Sligo rugby fans the opportunity to pledge their support and ‘Be the Difference’ to the Irish rugby team for the five gruelling encounters against some of the best rugby teams in the world. Thousands of Sligo rugby fans took part in O2’s ‘Be the Difference’ campaign, signing up by text, online or visiting their local O2 store. To thank Sligo rugby fans for signing up to the campaign, O2 offered them the chance to get their hands on the coveted 6 Nations and Triple Crown silverware and have their photo taken with the Grand Slam Trophy Tour. WESTLIFE singer and property developer Shane Filan must wait until July to see if he can go ahead with plans for a mixed-use development of 68 apartments, a supermarket, gym and creche in Co Sligo.
He was granted permission for the development at Tonafortes/Tullynagracken South in Carrowroe by Sligo County Council, but the decision has been appealed to An Bord Pleanala. Source: Independent.ie Posted on 05 Apr 2009 by Laura

As wife of one of the country's best known personalities, Gillian Filan very often finds herself in front of batteries of flashing camera bulbs, so she knows the importance of style and poise.
A self-confessed "Tom Boy" in her early years, Gillian was catapulted into the limelight once she married her childhood sweetheart, Westlife's Shane Filan, and she very quickly rediscovered her penchant for fashion and style. "As a youngster I was a bit of a Tom Boy, but like all girls, I always had an interest in fashion. In my twenties, I started to really get into it and because I'm sometimes in the public eye, I'm probably more fashion conscious than ever," she reveals. That eye for style was always in the family. In fact, Gillian's older sister, Joanna, is a successful jewellery designer, whose marvellous creations very often enhance Gillian's public appearances. Being exposed to a lot of stylish occasions has given Gillian a keen appreciation of the importance of clothes, make-up and deportment, making her an ideal judge for the Sligo Champion Search For A Model competition. And she's relishing the challenge. "I think it's a great idea. There are so many stunning looking girls in Sligo who could definitely make careers in the modelling profession, and this is a genuine opportunity for somebody to make a significant breakthrough," she says. From her own experiences, she's acutely aware of how difficult it can be for somebody in rural Ireland to achieve that illusive breakthrough, but it's getting easier and this competition, she feels, might be another step up the ladder for a budding model. "Dublin has always had lots of modelling competitions, so I suppose it's only natural that most models are based in or close to the capital. But competitions like this provide an opportunity for girls to have a chance in their own area, and that's very important. "It will be very interesting to find a model in Sligo and to see how far that person can take it. While I would hate to think it would all be very serious, it is nonetheless an important opportunity for anyone who feels they might have a talent in this regard," Gillian adds. She emphasises the fun element, urging people to get involved primarily for the enjoyment of the experience. "My advice to anybody considering entering the competition would be, firstly, to go out and enjoy it. It has to be fun, or there's no point doing it. My other tip would be not to be shy or lacking in confidence. Leave all those inhibitions behind and really go for it. "I know it's going to be a great night when the final is staged in the Castle Dargan Hotel on April 30th. I'm really looking forward to it," she concludes. Hey guys,
For the people who are also visitors of Sandra's website, you might know what's coming now, because what I wrote for her, goes for myself too. The fact is: there won't be that many updates here for a while. I'm in my final months of college as you might know, and with only 2 months to go there is a hell of a lot of work left to do. Which takes so much time I hardly have time of my own. Meaning it's gonna be a bit quiet over here for the next few weeks. I really do hope I can give you an update every week or two, but we'll see how that goes. I hope you all understand and I'll defenitely be back in June! So keep checking back! Thanks!
