On Saturday 23rd May, Nicky and Shane will take part in a charity football match at Liverpool’s Goodison Park.

The event, named CAUSE (Children’s Aid Using Soccer Events) and organized by former Liverpool star Jason McAteer, will help raise money three Children’s Charities - Liverpool Unites, Save The Children and The Prince's Trust.

Westlife has just won the Meteor Award for Best Irish Pop Act. It's the 9th time in a row that they grabbed the award for the best act of Ireland. By winning they left Boyzone, The Blizzards, The Coronas & The Script behind them.

Boyzone and Westlife go head to head tonight at Dublin's Meteor Awards - and singer Nicky Byrne is hopeful his band will come out on top.

Both bands are bidding to clinch the coveted Best Irish Pop Act Award.

Westlife have already scooped a staggering eight Meteor Awards in just ten years - but Nicky is hoping Westlife will get number nine tonight at the glittering awards ceremony.

Despite collecting a clutch of awards at the ceremony over the years, winning a Meteor is still something Westlife star holds dear.

"I will have the fingers crossed but just being nominated again was a big thrill for all of us," he said.

Both Nicky and Shane will be flying in for the music bash in the RDS tonight - Kian Egan and Mark Feehily couldn't make it due to other commitments.

Nicky's wife Georgina and Shane's wife Gillian will be accompanying their husbands as they celebrate their achievements.

Father-of-two Nicky, who is married to former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's daughter, Georgina, said of the awards: "I am really looking forward to the Meteors - it's always a great night.

"It's great to be nominated by the fans, that's what means so much,"

The band have been off the scene since last summer - but their blistering performance in Croke Park last June might just be enough to tip the category in their favour.

Some 82,000 fans flocked to Croke Park in June to catch their band play its biggest gig. Brian McFadden recently revealed his biggest regret on leaving Westlife was missing the opportunity at the Croker gig.

Last week, we asked about the friendships you've made through being a Westlife fan. You had loads of great stories to tell, and here's one of our favourites, from Laura1987 [That's me!].

"It may sound corny, but the friends that actually sticked around over the years are the friends I met through Westlife. I met Sandra 10 years ago (in September) in our first year of secondary school and when I found out she was a Westlife fan we became inseparable and she's still my closest friend.

Then there's Wendy who I met through a Westlife club Sandra and I set up. We met up for concerts and talked online and now the 3 of us are meeting up when we can and going to concerts together (been to Dublin 3 times and Glasgow once), but sadly enough Wendy doesn't live exactly around the corner from us..

And then there's Simone, who I started talking to like 4 years ago I think and we actually talk on MSN every day and I think I can say we're pretty close as well now. We're meeting up a few times a year, as we live quite a bit away from each other..

Then last but definitely not least Anita & Annette from Sweden and Denmark. I've met Anita twice and Annette briefly after the Croke Park gig. But they're the living proof that internet friendships CAN last. I wouldn't know what to do without them!

So guess it's right to say: Thanks Westlife for giving me these amazing friends!"

EXCLUSIVE Westlife star to splash cash at King of Pop sale

WESTLIFE star Shane Filan is planning to splash out thousands at Michael Jackson's personal memorabilia auction.

We can reveal the Flying Without Wings singer, 29, has lined up a private viewing of Jacko's possessions ahead of the auction in America next month.
Jackson fanatic Shane is eyeing up a silver sequinned glove and black fedora hat that the pop icon wore during live performances.

He told the Irish Daily Mirror last night: "I've always been a huge fan and I have my eye on a couple of items. I'd love the hat or one of the gloves but there's a few interesting things on sale. I can't really say more than that but I have a big interest in it."

Jacko is expected to make millions from the sale and the collection will have it's world exclusive preview at this weekend.

Shane has contacted organisers and has eyed up a number of items in the extensive auction catalogues that have been issued.

The auction will be staged at the Beverly Hills Hilton over three days next month with a hoard of celebrities expected to bid for items.

Shane is unlikely to travel to the US for the auction but will instead place bids with the help of two assistants.

The singer has been a Jacko fanatic since he was six and even included a Michael Jackson medley on their last tour.

Music mogul Louis Walsh has revealed how Westlife are busy plotting to attack the charts after a year out of the spotlight.

He told the Herald that the foursome wanted to score a sensational comeback when they return in June. As well as performing at least two dates in Croke Park, the stars want to launch a determined attack on the charts.

"The guys are all really enjoying their time out. It was great for them to spend time with their families and concentrate on their private lives," he said. "But they love performing and can't wait to get back on stage again."

The X Factor judge, who was last week named the Mayo Man of the Year, explained how he met Simon Cowell recently to jointly mastermind Westlife's return.

He has already picked out at least three new songs for the guys which he reckons would prove instant hits.

And despite going for the same teeny-bopper audience, Louis dismissed claims that the group could face some competition from former Take That star Robbie Williams. After years in the wilderness, the British singer is back on the scene after returning from LA.

"The guys aren't worried about the competition - they reckon they would still outsell him any day," he added.

The band will record their new album in June and reveal their 2010 tour dates. In May band member Kian Egan will swap vows in Barbados with fiancee Jodi Albert.
