New dad Shane in dash to help Haiti
Proud Dad Shane Filan welcomed the newest addition to his clan, baby Shane Peter into the world this weekend -- but it seems the Westlife star won't have much time to bond with the young tot.

The Diary can reveal the singer will have to leave his new arrival and namesake in the capable hands of wife Gillian, while he and bandmates, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily take to the studio to lend their vocals to Simon Cowell's new charity single, a remake of REM's Everybody Hurts.

The foursome are expected to jet out in the coming days to begin recording the single in London, which the media mogul is hoping to have on the shelves as early as next week, in a bid to raise funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Among those signed up to join the Flying Without Wings singers is Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, Robbie Williams and Cheryl Cole.

And while Shane is reluctant to leave his new bundle of joy so soon, a family insider explained how the generous star was determined to do whatever he could for those in need.

"He's hoping to go ahead with the single as long as he and the boys don't have to go any further than London to record it," he explained.

"Then, naturally, he'll be taking some time off to spend with his family."

Shane and Gillian's third child was born shortly after 9.30pm on Friday, weighing in at 6lb 9oz.

Westlife Recording Haiti Charity Single
Westlife are in the studio today and tomorrow, recording their parts for the Haiti appeal charity single.

The track is a cover of 'Everybody Hurts' by REM and will be released digitally on 7th February and on CD on 8th February. The record is in collaboration with The Sun and features an all-star line-up of musicians including Cheryl Cole, Susan Boyle, Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey and JLS.

All profits from the single will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee, which is a collection of 13 major charities who come together to help countries hit by devastating events such as this.

Baby joy for Westlife's Shane after mum's last-minute dash
Shane and Gillian became parents to a new born baby boy on Friday evening! One day after my birthday - 22nd January, at 9.40PM. Congratulations to the happy couple!

WESTLIFE star Shane Filan has become a father for the third time.

The pop star made a last-minute dash to Sligo General Hospital with his wife, Gillian, where she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

The newborn, which the couple are naming Shane Peter Filan after his boyband father, was born shortly after 9.30pm on Friday, weighing in at 6lbs 9oz.

A close family friend explained: "Shane and Gillian are over the moon with their new arrival. They're thrilled it's a boy and have decided to call him after his dad, which Shane is chuffed about.

"Both mom and baby are both doing great, although it was a last-minute dash to get to the hospital.

"The labour only took an hour-and-a-half so it was a close call but their doctor, Dr Heather Langan was great. She made sure everything ran smoothly and mom and baby were well looked after."

The couple already have a daughter Nicole and son Patrick, but Shane had always said he had planned to add to the clan.

It marks a bright start to 2010 after the group suffered several blows last year, including the tragic deaths of Nikki Byrne's father Nikki Senior and Stephen Gately.

Westlife support the WFP
Last month Westlife headed across to Oslo, Norway, to take place in the Nobel Peace Prize Concert honouring President Barack Obama.

While the boys were there, they put their signatures to a special piece of artwork created by Will Smith, which will be auctioned off on eBay to help raise money for hungry children in Haiti.

The World Food Programme and the Will & Jada Family Foundation created the artwork - based on a map of world hunger - and encouraged the stars of the Nobel Peace Prize Concert to add their signatures to the piece.

I'll be packing - Shane Filan

My last long relaxing holiday was to Barbados for [bandmate] Kian’s wedding. It was total pampering for two weeks. I’m much more into beaches than big cities and as long as there’s sun, sea and golf, I’m happy. My wife and I decided we wanted to learn to ski about three years ago and we’ve been trying to organise our first skiing trip. But something, namely her getting pregnant, keeps stopping us! We’re determined to make it up the mountains one day, though.

A good choice of sunglasses is a travel must for me, as I like matching different colours and styles with my outfits. Plus, I am guaranteed to lose at least one pair, so it’s good to have backups.

My gym kit comes with me wherever I go. In the last six months I’ve become totally addicted to working out. If I don’t do anything for a couple of days I feel like a massive elephant.

The laptop is essential for the kids. We can set them up with a DVD on the bed and they’re asleep in next to no time, giving us a bit of much needed peace.

I can’t go anywhere without my mobile. My wife will try to make me leave it in the hotel room for the day, but I’ll always find a way to slip back and check it. I don’t just have it on me for work calls, though. I store all my family photos on it and, before a tour, I’ll upload videos of the kids, which I’ll watch when I miss them.

Westlife’s new album Where We Are (Syco/Sony Music) is out now.
